This privacy policy explains how personal data is processed when you use the Compound Interest Calculator (compound-calculator.io).

2. What data we process

a) Access logs (nginx)

When you visit this website, our hosting infrastructure (nginx web server) automatically creates access log entries containing:

• Your IP address (anonymized — last octet zeroed)
• Date and time of request
• Requested page or resource (URL)
• HTTP status code
• Amount of data transferred
• Referrer URL (if sent by your browser)
• User agent (browser and operating system identifier)

These logs are retained for a maximum of 14 days and exist solely to ensure the technical operation, stability, and security of the server (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest). They are not combined with any other data sources and are not used to identify individual visitors.

b) Local storage

The calculator saves your entered values (initial amount, interest rate, etc.) in your browser's localStorage so your settings persist when you return. localStorage is stored entirely on your device — no data is transmitted to our server. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

No cookies are used for core calculator functionality.

c) Analytics

This site uses Fathom Analytics, a privacy-first analytics tool. Fathom:

• Does not use cookies
• Does not collect, store, or process personal data
• Fully anonymizes all page views (only aggregated counts are visible)
• Is GDPR-compliant by design and operated from EU infrastructure

No personal data is transferred to Fathom. The legal basis for using anonymized analytics is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in understanding how this calculator is used so we can improve it).

3. Hosting and data location

This website is hosted on a dedicated server located in Germany. All data processing (server logs, Fathom analytics) takes place exclusively on infrastructure within the European Union.

No data is transferred to countries outside the EU/EEA, and no third-party services (ad networks, CDNs, social media embeds) are used.

4. Data retention

• Server access logs: automatically deleted after 14 days
• Fathom analytics: anonymized aggregate data only; retained indefinitely in aggregate form (no personal data)
• Email correspondence: retained as long as needed for the specific inquiry, plus legal retention periods if applicable

5. Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

• Access — request confirmation of whether your data is processed and a copy (Art. 15)
• Rectification — correct inaccurate personal data (Art. 16)
• Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten", Art. 17)
